Samuel Rutherford Crockett
Samuel Rutherford Crockett (born September 24, 1859 in Little Duchrae, Kirkcudbright , Scotland , † April 16, 1914 in Tarascon , France ) was a Scottish writer .
Life
After attending school, he studied at the University of Edinburgh and New College in Edinburgh and then worked as a journalist and tutor . He later became a clergyman with the Free Church of Scotland and as such wrote sarcastic skits , 24 of which he published in The Stickit Minister's collection (1893), which earned him fame.
In 1894, The Raiders , The Lilac Sunbonnet (a seemingly innocent love story that mocked some religious sects ) and two short stories were published in quick succession . Because of his success, he gave up his activity as a clergyman in 1895 and then devoted himself entirely to writing. In the following years he wrote stories about the Covenanters and medieval Scotland, European medieval romances and (often high-profile) stories about mining , industrialization and the poor neighborhoods of Edinburgh.
His posthumous works included a book detective stories and a faith-based science fiction - novel . His other publications include:
