Samuel Starck
Samuel Starck (born February 25, 1649 in Pyritz in Pomerania ; † October 8, 1697 in Rostock ) was a German Lutheran theologian and professor at the University of Rostock .
education and study
Samuel Starck was born on February 25, 1649 as the son of the shoemaker Silvester Starck in Pyritz (Pomerania). From 1665 he attended high school in Anklam and then took up studies at the University of Greifswald , which he completed in 1672 with a doctorate.
academic career
In the winter semester of 1672/73, Starck enrolled at the University of Rostock and in the following year accepted a teaching position at the same. In 1676 he took over the office of pastor in Dargun and married on September 26th Sophie Pristaff († in June 1697), the widow of his predecessor Daniel Livonius (1606-1674). From 1691 he held the pastor's office in Neukalen and was also the praepositus of the Neukalen-Dargun diocese . In the summer semester of 1692 he returned to the University of Rostock to take his exams at the theological faculty and two years later, on June 28, 1694, was appointed full professor of theology by Duke Friedrich Wilhelm I. He took the place of his predecessor Michael Siricius . On March 31, 1696, Samuel Starck was appointed pastor at the Jakobikirche Rostock and at the same time was a preacher at the monastery of the Holy Cross . Due to the assumption of a municipal office, he had to resign his princely professorship at the university, but on the condition that he be given the next vacant council chair. However, Starck died earlier on October 8, 1697 in Rostock. His successor was Heinrich Askanius Engelke (1675–1734).
