Michael Siricius (born December 21, 1628 in Lübeck , † August 24, 1685 in Güstrow ) was a German theologian and university professor of the 17th century.

Life

Michael Siricius was the son of the pastor of the same name at the Marienkirche in Lübeck . After visiting the Katharineum in Lübeck in 1646, he briefly attended the Marienstiftsgymnasium in Stettin . In 1647 he studied theology for three semesters at the University of Helmstedt , 1648 in Leipzig , 1649/50 in Wittenberg and finally in 1651 in Gießen . In Gießen he received his master's degree in 1652. PhD. In 1657 he was licentiate and associate professor of theology in Giessen , in 1658 preacher of the city ​​church and full professor of church history. 1659 as Dr. theol. he was appointed full professor of theology at the University of Giessen . He turned down a call to Stade in 1659.

In 1670, Duke Gustav Adolf von Mecklenburg-Güstrow appointed him to the Council for Church and Spiritual Affairs. In addition to this position, he became a full professor of theology at the University of Rostock in 1675 . In 1678 he became a strict Lutheran assessor of the ducal consistory and superintendent of the Rostock church district. This did not include the city of Rostock.

In 1681 Michael Siricius was called back to Güstrow by Gustav Adolf while retaining his professorship. He was court preacher in Güstrow, but remained superintendent and consistorial assessor in Rostock. In 1684 he was commissioned to interview the medical professor Sebastian Werdenig about his treatise Nova medicina spirituum from 1673, who had described the Rosicrucian system in it.

Michael Siricius had two younger brothers, the lawyer Johann Siricius became mayor of Lübeck ; the lawyer Christoph Siricius Council Secretary in Lübeck.
