Sebastian Willig

Sebastian wirdig (* 1613 in Torgau ; † April 17, 1687 in Rostock ) was a German physician and professor of physics and medicine in Dorpat .

Life

Sebastian wirdig studied in Wittenberg, Leipzig and Königsberg. In 1641 he studied as a master at the University of Rostock . After his studies he was professor of physics and medicine at the University of Dorpat , where he received his doctorate in 1651. From 1650 to 1651 he was rector of the university. Willig returned to Rostock in 1654 and gave lectures on chemistry. From 1655 to 1687 he was also a professor of medicine here. At the same time he was the personal physician of Duke Gustav Adolf in Güstrow .

His work Nova Medicina spirituum curiosa , which was frequently reprinted and still appeared in German translation in 1707, made him suspicious of a spiritualist and Rosicrucian , and he had to submit to an examination of his work by the theological and medical faculty of the University of Wittenberg and a ducal commission under Michael Subject Siricius .
