The San Cristobal is a stratovolcano in the province of Laguna in the Philippines . It reaches a height of 1470 m and is located west of the Banahaw volcano .
The San Cristobal is located in the area of the municipality of San Pablo City , in the Mounts-Banahaw-San-Cristobal National Park . On the southern flank of the mountain runs the border between the provinces of Laguna and Quezon . The slopes are covered with dense flatland rainforest up to a height of 900 meters , above which mountain rainforest grows, which extends to the summit regions. The relief of the summit resembles an elongated W. The mountain can be climbed all year round. A preferred ascent route is the Dolores Trail on the southern slope of the mountain, which begins in the municipality of Dolores . Depending on the weather and vegetation, wide views over the surrounding region, up to the island of Marinduque, are possible.
The two mountains Banahaw and San Cristobal represent good and bad in popular belief. Therefore the region is an important spiritual center of the Philippines. The Banahaw is in this belief the "holy mountain" and the San Cristobal symbolizes the "Devil's Mountain". All Christian denominations in the Philippines have set up a shrine around the mountains, to which the population makes pilgrimages on special feast days. The San Cristobal is located approx. 80 km southeast of Manila and can be reached via the Marhalika Highway and the South Luzon Expressway.
