The Church of San Niclà ( Rhaeto-Romanic for "Saint Nicholas") in Strada in the Lower Engadine , which belongs to Valsot, is a former Protestant - Reformed church , which is a listed building for the Canton of Graubünden . It is located on the right side of the Inn in the hamlet of San Niclà about 1 km from the village center of Strada.
history
The church was before the year 1200 under the patronage of St. Nicholas in the style of Romanesque built. The late Baroque nave dates from 1718. The church was probably used as a place of worship by Strada-Chaflur until 1750, when another Reformed church was built in the village center of Strada , which was newly built after the Graubünden turmoil , which replaced San Niclà as the place of preaching.
From then on, San Niclà stood empty for a long time or was used as a farmhouse, with the church tower serving as a fireplace. In 1982 a foundation Fundaziun baselgia San Niclà was established, which restored the sacred building and returned it to the public.
Todays use
Today San Niclà is used as a cultural center (officially: Center Cultural Baselgia San Niclà - Kultur am Inn ) for concerts and theater. The church is also available to the Reformed parish of Valsot for services.
