San Pier Damiani is a Roman Catholic parish church and titled deaconry in the Roman district of Acilia Sud .

history

The parish was founded on February 9, 1962 by a decree by Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara and left to care for the clergy of the Diocese of Rome. The church was built according to plans by Attilio Spaccarelli and opened in March 1970. In 1973 she was given by Pope Paul VI. raised to the title of deaconry with the name San Pier Damiani ai Monti di San Paolo .

The ingress of water, the aging of the building materials and static problems made a renovation necessary in 1998, during which the roof was lowered. On June 8, 2002, the previously unconsecrated church was consecrated by the Roman auxiliary bishop Rino Fisichella .

The church was founded by Pope Paul VI. on the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the death of St. Peter Damiani , the church patron. Pope John Paul II followed suit on March 13, 1988, and Pope Francis on May 21, 2017 .

Cardinal priest pro hac vice has been Agostino Cardinal Vallini since February 24, 2009 , who had been a cardinal deacon here from March 24, 2006 .
