The Roman Catholic Church of San Salvador in Carabias, a district of the Spanish municipality of Sigüenza in the province of Guadalajara of the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha , was built in the 13th century. In 1965 the Romanesque church was declared a monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ).

architecture

A just closed apse adjoins the single nave nave in the east . The structure, standing slightly on the slope, consists of carefully worked house stones . The south and west sides of the church are surrounded by a vestibule; a rectangular bell tower with two sound arcades is attached to the south vestibule in the east . There is a portal on the south and west sides . The round-arched west portal has an archivolt made of simple vaulted stones that rest on pillars , the capitals of which are decorated with plants. The south portal has three archivolts, the middle one is unadorned and the two outer ones are decorated with a deaf ribbon . The capitals of the pillars on which the outer archivolt rests are no longer recognizable.

The two-sided vestibule of the church consists of arcades that rest on double columns. Their capitals are decorated with vegetable motifs.

The interior of the church was changed in the 17th century. The font is the oldest piece of equipment.

Stonemason's mark

57 stonemason marks were found on the facade of the church , 50 of them are in the vestibule.
