San Savino is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of Magione in the province of Perugia , Umbria region in Italy .
geography
The place is 4 km southwest of the capital Magione and 16 km west of the provincial and regional capital Perugia on a hill on the southeastern part of Lake Trasimeno . The place is at 314 m slm and 2001 had 604 inhabitants. In the north-west the place borders on San Feliciano (approx. 2 km) and 4 km south-west is Sant'Arcangelo (both places are fractions of Magione).
history
Excavations have shown that the place was already populated in the Middle and Late Bronze Age and was called Cignano . The name change to San Savino took place in the 11th century, when the place was named after the old Pieve des San Savino , mentioned in 1029/1031 , which was at the foot of today's town towards the lake. In 1282 the place had around 70 inhabitants, in 1410 around 180 inhabitants and in 1495 around 350 inhabitants.
Attractions
- Castello di San Savino , castle with triangular keep was in the center, which was completed in 1180, shortly destroyed it and built from 1310 on will of the government in Perugia again.
- San Savino , church in the town center. It was first created as the Oratorio della Confraternita di Santa Maria Maddalena and received its current name and the title of the Parochial Church on May 8, 1747 from Francesco Riccardo Ferniani, Bishop of Perugia . In 1757 the church was restored, changed and rededicated. The bell tower also dates from the 18th century. Further restorations took place from 1930 to 1935 and 1960.

- The closest connection point to long-distance traffic is in the main town of Magione, approx. 5 km north. There is a connection to the Raccordo autostradale 6 .
- The nearest train station is also in Magione, approx. 4 km away. It is on the Terontola- Foligno railway line .
- From San Feliciano (approx. 2 km) there are ferry connections to the island of Isola Polvese .
