The Sander See is a quarry pond in the area of the municipality of Sande in the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony . Over time, the Sander See leisure facility was built around the lake.
location
The Sander See is located northwest of the main town Sande in a triangle formed by the Federal Motorway 29 , the Ems-Jade Canal and the K 294 district road .
The lake has an overflow on its western side at the level of the surfer area, which regulates the water level of the lake.
history
The lake was created in the 1970s when sand was excavated for the construction of the nearby Federal Highway 29 .
Sander See leisure facility
The leisure facility Sander See has a sandy beach on the lakeshore. Large parts of the lake shore are overgrown with reeds . Outside the demarcated bathing area, activities such as rowing, paddling, surfing and sailing are permitted except for the area which is demarcated as a nature reserve.
There is a volleyball and soccer field on land. During the season there is a kiosk and a sanitary building with shower and changing facilities. Entry to the leisure facility is free.
Sports
A 1.8-kilometer running track runs around the lake, on which running events take place regularly.
