The Sandessee (also known as the Sonnessee in older literature ) is located at an altitude of 2370 m in the rear part of the Pflersch Valley , which is a western side valley of the Wipptal . A few meters from the lake is the Tribulaunhütte , which draws its drinking water from it. Bathing is therefore prohibited in the lake. The Pflerscher Tribulaun and the Goldkappl rise south-east of the lake . At the southern edge of the basin around the Sandessee the deposit forms of a fossil rock glacier can still be clearly seen . The boulders come from a cirque in the Vastelgruben (2578 m). Today the Sandessee is a protected natural monument .
