Sando Dicker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Samuel Sando Dicker (born January 24, 1894 in Galați ; † April 12, 1935 in Berlin ) was a Romanian composer and entertainment musician of Jewish descent.

Life

Dicker was born in Galaţi, Romania. He came to Berlin before the First World War . He wrote marches and popular music in the 1920s. A specialty of Dickers were character pieces, a genre that enjoyed popularity at the time and that no café chapel or spa orchestra was missing in the repertoire. They often had “fairytale” titles, e.g. B. Snow Queen's wedding procession or Hansel and Gretel's homecoming . Dicker's character pieces were quite international, as proven by titles such as Chinese Intermezzo , Serenata espagnola , Michigan Wellen . They were also distributed on gramophone records and on the radio.

Some compositions by Dicker have been in special arrangements until recently, e.g. B. for mandolin orchestra or for accordion or bandoneon , remained available from music publishers.

His march Crown of Joy was used "uncredited" in the 1960 film The Entertainer (based on the play by John Osborne ).

Dicker died in Berlin on April 12, 1935.
