Franz von Blon

Franz von Blon (born July 16, 1861 in Berlin ; † October 21, 1945 in Seilershof , Brandenburg ) was a German composer and conductor .

Life

He received violin lessons at the age of eight. He completed his studies at the Stern Conservatory and at the Royal University of Music in Berlin .

After graduating, he first gained orchestral experience as a concertmaster in the orchestra of the Hamburg City Theater . He then became conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Orchestra . At the same time he was the conductor of the Berliner Tonkünstler . He later directed the Warsaw Philharmonic . He became known as the composer of around 30 marches, which are also played a lot internationally. The Dramatic Overture , which he composed for the 19th Federal Music Festival in Bern in 1931 , is counted among the pioneering works of symphonic wind music.

At the end of the 1920s he made recordings for Electrola with the Berlin Harmony Orchestra.
