Sandra Günter

Sandra Günter (* 1970 in Bremen ) is a German sports and cultural scientist with a focus on gender research .

Life

After graduating from high school, she studied history and sports at the University of Bremen (1990–1996) . After passing the 1st and 2nd state examinations, she taught part-time in Bremen and Lower Saxony (1997-2006) and was doing her doctorate in parallel. phil. at the University of Bremen. For her work she received the Dr. Bernhard Zimmermann Prize of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History (2002; Diss .: Gender construction in sport. A historical study of the national and regional gymnastics and sports movement of the 19th and 20th centuries ). From 2006 to 2009 she was a research assistant for Gabriele Klein (Department of Movement Science , University of Hamburg ). From 2009 to 2014 she was Associate Professor for Sport and Body Sociology at the Institute for Sport Science, University of Bern , before she was appointed Associate Professor for Sociology of Sport at the University of Trondheim in 2014 . In 2016 she was appointed head of the Sport and Society department at Leibniz University Hannover . Member of the Gender Research Forum at Leibniz University Hannover. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History and is the spokesperson for the Sports History section of the German Association for Sports Science . Her main focus is sport-related gender research.
