Sandra Lavorel

Sandra Lavorel (born September 12, 1965 ) is a landscape and ecosystem ecologist . She deals u. a. with biodiversity .

Life

Lavorel was trained as an agronomist and received a PhD in ecology and evolutionary biology . She is a member of the Académie des Sciences and, since 2020, of the National Academy of Sciences .

Act

Lavorel is considered to be a pioneer in creating feature-based approaches in functional ecology . Her research deals with the effects of changes in climate and land management on ecosystems . It builds on the strengths of functional ecology to improve the quantification of ecosystem services.

Lavorel was featured in the 2006 film Our Planet .

In 2018, Lavorel was one of the 200 signatories of an appeal in the newspaper Le Monde , in which it was warned of drastic consequences such as the extinction of human species, unless a quick rethinking of problem areas such as climate change and the extinction of species and wider planetary limits occurs.
