Sandra Osborne

Sandra Osborne (* 23. February 1956 as Sandra Clark ) is a politician of the Scottish Labor Party .

Life

Osborne was born the second oldest of five children. She attended school in Paisley before graduating from night school to attend Jordanhill College . She left this with a diploma from the field of education. In Glasgow they then worked before as a consultant for 14 years for a women's aid organization in Kilmarnock worked. Osborne completed part-time studies at Strathclyde University with a Masters in Equality and Discrimination . In 1997 she was nominated for the Scottish Woman of the Year election for her work in women's welfare . Osborne is married and has two daughters.

Political career

After Osborne had already been elected to various regional councils, she appeared in the 1997 general election for the first time to national elections. As a candidate of the Labor Party in the constituency of Ayr , she inherited her husband, who missed the lower house mandate against the conservative Phil Gallie in the previous elections with a difference of only 85 votes . Since its inception in 1950, the constituency has only sent conservative politicians. With a significant increase in votes, Osborne was able to win the Labor Party mandate for the first time. During the term, Osborne served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Brian Wilson and later George Foulkes .

In the 2001 general election , Osborne defended her mandate despite losing votes. She became Parliamentary Private Secretary again, this time under Helen Liddell . In 2003, she resigned from this post due to disagreements over Iraq policy. Before the general election in 2005 , the Ayr constituency was dissolved. Therefore, Osborne joined the newly created constituency of Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock . She won the mandate and was able to defend it in the 2010 elections with a slight gain in votes. In the general election of 2015 , Osborne was unable to prevail against the SNP candidate Corri Wilson and she subsequently left the British House of Commons.
