Sandro Tonali (born May 8, 2000 in Lodi ) is an Italian football player . The midfielder is in the service of Brescia Calcio and has been a national player since October 2019 .

Career

After showing attractive performances in the U17 of his club Brescia Calcio , the only 17-year-old Sandro Tonali moved up to the professional team of the second division for the 2017/18 season . There he made his debut on August 26, 2017, when he came on as a substitute in the 2-1 away defeat by US Avellino in the second half. On April 28, 2018, he scored his first professional goal in the 4-2 away defeat against US Salernitana . In the next season 2018/19 Tonali succeeded with his team the championship in Serie B and the rise in the first-class Series A . Tonali was named the best Serie B player for his achievements in the 2018/19 season. Despite impressive performance of Tonali subsequent ended season 2019/20 for Brescia Calcio on the 19th place in the table and the direct descent back to the second-rate series B . Tonali played 35 games in the league and scored his first goal in Serie A on October 26, 2019 in a 3-1 defeat in the away game against CFC Genoa .

National team

He participated with the Italian U19 selection in the U-19 European Football Championship 2018 in Finland , where Italy failed in the final to Portugal . In July 2019 he was in action for the U21s at the 2019 U21 European Championship .

On October 15, 2019, he made his debut in a 5-0 home win against Liechtenstein in qualifying for the European Championship 2020 for the A-selection when he came on for Federico Bernardeschi in the 74th minute of the game .

Style of play

Sandro Tonali is a playmaker on the field . He is the creative head of the midfield who initiates attacks and controls moves. Tonali already shows at a young age that he is up to this role and is therefore already observed by various top Italian clubs. He is often compared to the former Italian international and world champion Andrea Pirlo . Like Tonali, Pirlo comes from the youth of Brescia Calcio and has been the regista himself for decades . In addition, the stature, appearance and charisma on the playing field of the two are very similar. Tonali is already mentioned in Italy as Pirlo's successor.
