Sandy Siegelstein
Sanford J. "Sandy" Siegelstein (born April 10, 1919 , † January 14, 2013 ) was an American French horn player who was active in jazz .
Siegelstein played in Claude Thornhill's orchestra from the 1940s , with whom he made his first recordings in 1946. In 1947 he was involved in titles such as Robin's Nest and Anthropology arranged by Gil Evans , and when the Thornhill Orchestra was temporarily disbanded, the following year he was a member of the rehearsal band around Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan and Lee Konitz . In April 1949 he took part in the second session of Miles Davis's Birth of the Cool . The last recordings in the field of jazz were made in 1959 with the Thornhill Orchestra, with which he was involved in 29 recording sessions. Siegelstein last lived in Yonkers , New York.
