Sandy Tomsits

Sandy Tomsits (born December 9, 1967 in Vienna ) is an Austrian director, dramaturge and visual artist.

Life

Sandy Tomsits studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna , master class: Arnulf Rainer, graduated in 1995. This was followed by a degree in German at the University of Vienna and a teaching degree in "Art Education" with Herwig Zens. In her diploma thesis she dealt with the visual design elements in the film "The Contract of the Draftsman" by Peter Greenaway and researched for it at the British Film Institute London with the support of Peter Marginter, head of the Austrian Cultural Institute in London (1995).

While studying painting, Sandy Tomsits worked from 1995 to 2000 for the Austrian daily newspaper “ Der Standard ” as a freelance journalist under the name Sandy Lang in the field of literature and theater (features, interviews, reporting). 1999–2001 she participated in the idea, concept and implementation of the “Rimbaud competition for authors up to 19” in cooperation with the writer and standard editor Michael Cerha for the daily newspaper “Der Standard” and Ö1. "Rimbaud evenings" followed in the form of staged readings of the award-winning texts in the play bar of the Volkstheater (director: Emmy Werner).

From 2003, Sandy Tomsits worked as an assistant director at the Schauspiel Frankfurt , Volkstheater Wien, Akademietheater Wien, a. a. for the directors Anselm Weber and Karin Beier. From 2005 she worked as an assistant director at the Schauspiel Essen under the direction of Anselm Weber. At the Schauspiel Essen she staged, among other things, the “Prinzessinnendramen I-III” by Elfriede Jelinek with Nadja Robiné, Ute Zehlen, Rezo Tschikwischwili and Fritz Fenne. She then worked as a guest assistant director at the Opera de Munt / Koninklijk Circus for “Lucia di Lammermoor” (director: Guy Joosten , conductor: Julian Reynolds). From 2007 she gave her own productions, including a. at the Schauspiel Essen, Theater Duisburg and led youth and senior theater groups .

Other activities included theater work with addicts (Kamillushaus / Essen) on the subject of "Alcohol in the Family", staging and dramatization of the children's book "Message in a Bottle to Somewhere" by Schirin Homeier, Andreas Schrappe, and working with children from immigrant families in Essen / Mühlheim.

In 2011 she returned to Vienna and staged the play “Sterbebett mit Pappendeckeln” (premiere) by Andreas Okopenko in cooperation with Karlheinz Essl (music) and Michael Cerha (dramaturgy) at the Theater Spielraum Wien. In 2013 she began the psychotherapeutic preparatory course at the ÖAGG, worked in the Maimonides Center with dementia patients and completed training as a theater pedagogue (BuT certified) at the Institute for Applied Theater (ifant). In 2019 she completed further training as a music theater teacher at the Heidelberg Theater Workshop.

At the beginning of 2017 she founded an independent senior theater group (“Alte Meister, Wien”) in Vienna and took part in the international senior theater festival in Andelsbuch / Vorarlberg with the production “Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten - reloaded”. Since then she has been working on setting up a senior theater scene in Vienna in cooperation with Oliver Gruber-Lavin y Ochoa.
