Sanije Torka

Sanije Torka (born January 15, 1944 in Beelitz ) is a German singer and artist.

Life

Sanije Torka was as a child of Crimean Tatar contract workers born in Beelitz near Potsdam and grew up in East Germany on -Kinderheimen. She began an apprenticeship as a locksmith and later trained to be an actor. She was also known to the screenwriter Wolfgang Kohlhaase through artistic circles.

Based on her life story, the DEFA film Solo Sunny was made , which was the last feature film by director Konrad Wolf . The basis was an unpublished interview conducted in 1976 with the journalist Jutta Voigt , who made the interview available to Wolfgang Kohlhaase, who in turn used it as a real basis for the script of the film. Sanije Torka is not mentioned in the film, but Jutta Voigt is mentioned as a consultant in the opening credits. The film received several awards, including the Silver Bear at the Berlinale 1980 for Renate Krößner's portrayal of "Sunny".

After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Sanije Torka came into conflict with the law because of multiple shoplifting. The life story of Sanije Torka was filmed in 2007 as a documentary portrait by Alexandra Czok under the title Solo for Sanije for the MDR .
