history

The original Romanesque small church was often rebuilt in the course of time, as from the numerous Baunähten is to close in the walls. The hillside location also brings static problems. Numerous wall anchors and retaining walls bear witness to this . The most extensive renovations took place during the Renaissance and Baroque periods .

A large inscription above the west gallery reports on renovation work (repainting) in 1819 and 1893.

The church tower dates from around 1500. During World War II, its bells were melted down for military purposes. In the 1950s, lightning struck the tower, so that a side wall had to be rebuilt. Unfortunately, only the prospectus remains of the organ from 1702 . In 1920 the organ was renewed by the organ builder Joh. Eifert from Stadtilm .

In 1989 the interior renovation of the church was completed. The simple version of the paintings from 1627 could be restored. The beautiful marbling in blue and gold on the pulpit , the organ and other facilities is impressive .

The baptismal font also dates from this time . The pulpit was restored in 1995 and put back in its place. The pastors do not use it, however, but speak to the religious community from the altar. In 1707 the baroque paintings were applied to the pulpit. One of the fields of the pulpit contains a wallpaper print from the end of the 16th century. Usually a white cloth hanging over it protects it from fading.
