The Villingen-Schwenningen voluntary fire brigade is the municipal fire brigade of the large Baden-Württemberg district town of Villingen-Schwenningen . It came into being after the merger of the formerly independent towns of Villingen and Schwenningen in 1972. It consists of ten departments, some of which were independent before the merger.

Departments

Villingen

The Villingen department is the oldest. The roots of organized fire fighting in Villingen go back to the year 1271, when a city fire destroyed large parts of Villingen. In response, “the first ordinance on 'moving out in the event of robbery, fire, fighting' ” came into force in 1294 . The members of the craft guilds were obliged to fire brigades .

In 1852 the Villingen volunteer fire brigade was founded. The department now has 136 members, including two full-time equipment control rooms. It has 15 vehicles and trailers, including a command vehicle , an emergency fire fighting group vehicle , two fire fighting group vehicles and a turntable ladders .

In addition, the Villingen department has a radiation protection train and a minstrel train .

Schwenningen

The Schwenningen department was founded in 1862 as an independent volunteer fire brigade . She resides in a listed fire station (see pictures). The tower was previously used to look out for fires in the city.

The department now has 135 members, 16 vehicles and trailers (three fire engines ) as well as a height rescue group , fire brigade chaplain and specialist chemical adviser.

The Schwenningen fire brigade runs its own fire brigade museum on a voluntary basis with historical Schwenninger exhibits, but also with other donated goods related to the fire brigade. The museum is open to visitors free of charge.

The Schwenningen department also includes the Mühlhausen fire fighting group , which was founded in 1827 as an independent fire department. It lost its independence with the incorporation of Mühlhausen into Schwenningen in 1970.

Herzogenweiler

The Herzogenweiler department was only founded in 1940. It has 25 members and 3 vehicles.

Marbach

The Marbach department, founded in 1869, has 44 members and 3 vehicles.

Obereschach

The history of the Obereschach volunteer fire brigade goes back to 1865. The fire brigade has 105 members and 4 vehicles. There is also a marching band in Obereschach.

Pfaffenweiler

Pfaffenweiler has had its own volunteer fire brigade since 1868 with 43 members and 3 vehicles today. The town hall, built in 1900, is now used as a fire station.

Rietheim

The Rietheim volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1905. 35 members are involved here, with 2 vehicles at their disposal.

Tannheim

The Tannheim volunteer fire brigade has existed since 1865. It has 55 members and 4 vehicles.

Weigheim

In 1839 a "Feuerrotte" was mentioned in a document in Weigheim . The Weigheim fire brigade was founded in 1888 . 45 members and 3 vehicles are available today.

Weilersbach

The Weilersbach volunteer fire brigade, founded in 1886, has 60 members and 3 vehicles.

All departments except Herzogenweiler, Pfaffenweiler and Tannheim have youth fire brigades .

Responsible control centers

As an integrated control center for the Schwarzwald-Baar district, the control center Schwarzwald-Baar is originally (also) responsible for the fire brigade in Villingen-Schwenningen. It is operated by the German Red Cross . It is networked with the Rottweil control center , which is originally responsible for the neighboring Rottweil district. Via the network, both control centers can mutually accept and process the emergency calls received in the other control center and alert the other staff. In this way, the dispatchers of a control center - who often work alone at night - can be supported by colleagues from the other. In the event of a failure of a control center (or an emergency of a dispatcher), both operation is guaranteed and quick help is possible for a dispatcher in need.
