Santa Cruz is a Finnish sleaze rock band from Helsinki that was formed in 2007.
history
Arttu Kuosmanen (* 1992) and Joonas Parkkonen founded Santa Cruz in 2007. The following year bassist Mitja Toivonen joined them, whereupon two demos have already been recorded. After some temporary drummers, Tapani Fagerström joined the group in 2009 on this instrument. After the self-produced EP Anthems for the Young 'n' Restless from 2011, Santa Cruz was signed by the Finnish label Spinefarm Records . In 2013 the debut album Screaming for Adrenaline was released , which consists of songs that were written between 2007 and 2013, and also contains newly recorded songs from the EP. In 2015 Santa Cruz released their second album named after the band.
On March 18, 2018, Santa Cruz announced the cancellation of the current USA tour, as opening act for Fozzy . The reason given was massive internal band problems. As a result, singer Kuosmanen was kicked off the tour bus, then the other band members collectively announced their exit.
Santa Cruz was about to end, singer Kuosmanen was the last member of the band. On April 16, the arrival of guitarist Brody DeRozie was announced, but left Santa Cruz on May 22. On July 7, 2018, Kuosmanen introduced Pav Cruz as the new guitarist and on August 3, Jordan Marshall as the new drummer.

The band names the young Skid Row and Guns N 'Roses as the main influences .
The album Screaming for Adrenaline , which the band sees itself as "ass-kicking, adrenaline-ridden hard rock", was received very favorably by critics. Lothar Hausfeld from musikreviews.de praises "rousing songs that you can already hum along after listening to it once, dirty guitar solos, either party-compatible or relationship-reflecting lyrics", as well as a singer who "reminds you of Axl Rose more than once". Metal.de praises the record as “full of energy, snotty, full of attitude and with a lot of hairspray”, whereby the band shows “no weaknesses or signs of being overwhelmed”. On metalnews.de, author Thomas Meyns praises it as “fresh and impetuous”.
In contrast to its predecessor, the reviews of the second album were more divided. The Metal Hammer praised the debut, with its "veritable hairspray hymns, wonderful snotty attitude and promiscuous party mood", he sees the successor very critically, which "does not stand up to a quality comparison". There was “not much left” of the “cool double guitar penetration”, the “sympathetic-brash vocals” were losing to the “horrible mix that tried the entire miserable Pro Tools range of effects, as well as the silly nasty gangshouts and synthesized choir walls”. The music site metal.de also criticized the record. The band had mutated from “snotty, cheeky glam rockers” to “good lap dogs” within a year, and the album was largely “interchangeable, tailored to the general public”. Metalnews.de writes of a "development in the wrong direction". Madlen Reuter from Twilight magazine sees the album more positively. Although she also emphasizes the changed style and recognizes “confusing breakdown elements”, she sees a “quite successful second album”.
