Santa Maria de Airão is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northern Portugal .
Santa Maria de Airão is part of the Guimarães district in the Braga district . The community had an area of 2.38 km² and 1692 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). The community is predominantly urban.
On September 29, 2013, the parishes of Airão (Santa Maria), Vermil and Airão (São João Baptista) merged to form the new congregation União das Freguesias de Airão Santa Maria, Airão São João e Vermil .
