J. Léonce Bernard

Joseph Gérard Léonce Bernard , O.PEI (born May 23, 1943 in Abrams Village , Prince Edward Island , † March 27, 2013 ) was a Canadian politician . From 2001 to 2006 he was Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.

The Acadians Bernard, a trained accountant , served in the Royal Canadian Air Force . After that he worked, among other things, as managing director of a local bank. For the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party , he ran in 1975 with success in a by-election for a seat in the legislative assembly . He was re-elected on the five subsequent election dates. He held two ministerial posts in Joe Ghiz's government : from 1986 to 1989 he was minister for industry, then minister for fisheries until 1991. In 1993, Bernard resigned as an MP. Governor General Adrienne Clarkson sworn in on May 28, 2001 as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. He held this representative office until July 31, 2006.
