Benjamin Rogers
Benjamin Rogers (born August 7, 1837 in Bedeque , Prince Edward Island , † May 16, 1923 ) was a Canadian politician . From 1910 to 1915 he was Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.
Rogers, the son of Welsh immigrants, worked as an export trader and also served as justice of the peace . In 1872 he was elected to the Legislative Council, the upper house of the province, as a member of the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party . In 1878 he was elected to the legislative assembly (lower house), of which he was a member until 1897. From 1883 to 1886, Rogers was opposition leader. Although he was no longer a member of parliament, he was a member of the cabinet of Donald Farquharson and Arthur Peters from 1900 to 1905 and served as Minister of Agriculture and Treasurer. Governor General Lord Gray swore in Rogers on June 1, 1910 as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. He held this representative office until June 2, 1915.
