Lloyd MacPhail
Robert Lloyd George MacPhail , CM (born March 22, 1920 in New Haven , Prince Edward Island , † July 2, 1995 ) was a Canadian politician and businessman . From 1985 to 1990 he was Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.
After leaving school, MacPhail ran the family's general store and a trading company for agricultural equipment for over three decades. As a member of the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party , he ran for a by-election in 1961 and was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly. He was re-elected seven times in a row, the last time in 1982. MacPhail held several ministerial posts. Under Walter Russell Shaw he was Minister for Industry, Natural Resources and Tourism in 1965/66. After more than a decade in the opposition, he was Treasury Secretary in the governments of Angus MacLean and James Lee from 1979 . Governor General Jeanne Sauvé sworn in MacPhail on August 1, 1985 as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. He held this representative office until August 16, 1990.
