John George MacKay

John George MacKay (born November 6, 1893 in Albany , Prince Edward Island , † October 21, 1974 in Charlottetown ) was a Canadian politician . He was Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from 1969 until his death .

MacKay worked for various agricultural organizations. He headed a dairy farmers 'association, an agricultural school and a pig farmers' association. During the First World War he served in the Canadian Army. As a member of the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party , MacKay was elected to the Legislative Assembly in a by-election in 1949. He was re-elected four times in a row, the last time in 1962. He was a member of the provincial government twice, in 1952 as Minister without Portfolio under John Walter Jones and from 1959 to 1962 as Minister for Infrastructure and Roads under Alexander Wallace Matheson . In 1966 he resigned as a member of parliament. Governor General Roland Michener swore in MacKay on October 6, 1969 as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. He died shortly before the end of his five-year term.
