biography

McIntyre's paternal grandparents were from Scotland and settled on the island around 1785. He studied medicine at the Université Laval in Québec and at McGill University in Montreal . In 1867 he opened a practice in the village of Souris . He also worked as a coroner for Kings County . In 1872 he was given the task of overseeing the construction of the Prince Edward Island Railway .

After the accession of Prince Edward Island to the Canadian Confederation , the cause of which was, among other things, the accumulated debts in the railway construction, McIntyre ran for the Liberal Party of Canada in the general election in 1874 and was elected MP from Kings County. In 1878 he lost his mandate, but won it back in 1882. In 1891 he was voted out for the second time, five years later he ran unsuccessfully. Governor General Lord Minto swore in McIntyre on May 23, 1899 as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. He held this representative office until October 3, 1904.
