Santa Maria della Chiappella

Santa-Maria-della-Chiappella is a chapel in the town of the same name on Corsica . It is located near the coast on the Cap Corse north of Macinaggio in the municipality of Rogliano ( Haute-Corse department ), opposite the Iles Finocchiarola (nature reserve).

The chapel, which was built on pre-Romanesque foundations at an unspecified time , but was repeatedly renewed in the 11th, 12th and 16th centuries, consists of an unadorned gray hall-like nave and two apses of different sizes lying next to each other . This type of construction is rare in Corsica, but also occurs in the chapels of Santa Cristina near Cervione and Santa Mariona in Corte . The brickwork is made of slate stone , the roof is covered with slate shingles. The roof structure is made of chestnut wood . The chapel was restored in the 18th century. During a further restoration in 1970, wall paintings from the 15th century were discovered.

Genoese tower

There is a half-ruined Genoese tower near the chapel .
