Santa Maria delle Grazie alle Fornaci is a titular deaconry and parish church in the Roman quarter of Aurelio .

history

The name of the church is derived from the brickworks in the area. A church was first built on this site in the 15th century . It was rebuilt in the 17th century based on drawings by Francesco Multò . In 1720 Filippo Raguzzini added the facade and in 1950 the campanile was added.

On June 15, 1828, the associated parish was founded by a decree by Cardinal Vicar Giacinto Placido Zurla . In 1985 Pope John Paul II elevated the church to a title diakonia.

The nave is shaped like a Greek cross and has a main altar and two side altars. On the main altar is the miraculous image of the Madonna delle grazie , painted by Gilles Halet and crowned in 1956 . Inside the church are works by the artists Giovanni Battista Maini , Francesco Scaramucci , Francesco Fusi , Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari and Pietro Bianchi .
