Mario Zenari
Mario Cardinal Zenari (born January 5, 1946 in Villafranca di Verona , Province of Verona , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
Mario Zenari received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Verona on July 5th, 1970 through the Bishop of Verona, Giuseppe Carraro . Pope John Paul II appointed him permanent observer of the Holy See at the United Nations Office in Vienna and United Nations Industrial Development Organization and permanent representative at the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Organization for Security and Cooperation on June 15, 1994 in Europe in Vienna .
On July 12, 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him titular archbishop of Iulium Carnicum and appointed him apostolic nuncio in the Ivory Coast and Niger and on July 24, 1999 apostolic nuncio in Burkina Faso . He was ordained bishop on September 25th of the same year by Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano ; Co- consecrators were the secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Curia Archbishop Marcello Zago OMI , and the Bishop of Verona , Flavio Roberto Carraro OFMCap . On May 10, 2004, Mario Zenari became Apostolic Nuncio in Sri Lanka . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 30, 2008 as Apostolic Nuncio in Syria .
In the consistory of November 19, 2016, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal deacon with the title deaconry Santa Maria delle Grazie alle Fornaci fuori Porta Cavalleggeri in the college of cardinals . The occupation of his title diakonia took place on March 25, 2017.
On December 23, 2017, the Pope appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .
