Giovanni Battista Morandini

Giovanni Battista Morandini (born June 30, 1937 in Bienno , Province of Brescia , Italy ) is a former diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Giovanni Battista Morandini first studied philosophy and from 1960 to 1962 as an alumne of the Pontifical Lombard Seminary Catholic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . On July 22, 1962, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Brescia in Bienno . He was then released for postgraduate studies in Canon Law and graduated from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy from 1964 to 1966 . He then entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and initially worked in the Apostolic Nunciature in Bolivia . Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on July 11, 1967 the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). In 1970 he moved to the Nunciature in Kenya . In 1971 he was appointed Nunciature Secretary in Belgium and finally in 1975 he was entrusted with diplomatic tasks in Brazil . From 1979 he finally worked as a Nunciature Councilor in the General Affairs Section of the Church of the Vatican State Secretariat .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Numida and Apostolic Nuncio in Rwanda on August 30, 1983 . The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Secretary of State Agostino Casaroli on 8 October of the same year in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Bernardin Gantin and Cardinal Eugênio de Araújo Sales , Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro .

On September 12, 1990, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Guatemala . On April 23, 1997, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Korea and Mongolia . On March 6, 2004, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Syria . Pope Benedict XVI accepted his age-related resignation . on September 21, 2008.
