Sapphire was an English new wave of British heavy metal and rock band from London that was formed in 1981 and split up in 1982.

history

The band was formed towards the end of 1981 in north London by singer Steve Gett, who also worked for Kerrang magazine . The other members were the guitarist Rudi Riviere, the bassist Chris Boland and the drummer Fred Zeppelin in the cast. After a few months a first demo was recorded, which contains the songs Black Cat , Jealousy , I Love Rock and Roll and Don't Let Go . The demo was performed in the Armed and Ready section of the Kerrang . Within a few weeks, a single was recorded and released in 1982 on the band's own label Sapphire Rocks Records under the name Jealousy with Let It Burn as the b-side. At the time, the band held gigs with groups like Blackfoot and Alice Cooper . The single was listed in the Top 30 Kuts in the Kerrang a few months later . In May 1982 the band split up. Gett later moved to New York City , where he worked for Billboard magazine and also wrote Heavy Duty about Judas Priest .

style

According to Malc Macmillan in The NWOBHM Encyclopedia , catchy melodic rock and metal can be heard on the single , with tonal similarities to Stagefright and Baby Tuckoo being audible.
