Sara Topelson de Grinberg

Sara Topelson de Grinberg (* probably early 1945 in Poland ) is a Mexican architect .

biography

Born in Poland, Topelson de Grinberg is the daughter of a Russian father and a Polish mother and came to Mexico with her family when she was three months old, fleeing from the National Socialists . In Mexico City , she studied architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), architectural theory at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional and art history at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA).

Together with her husband José Grinberg she founded the architectural office Grinberg & Topelson Arquitectos and planned numerous residential buildings, educational, industrial and commercial facilities as well as cultural and leisure facilities with him.

She was a professor at the architecture school of the Universidad Anáhuac for the history and the teaching workshop of urban planningarchitecture and was honored by the university in 1972 as “Excellent Academic” ( “Excelencia Académica” ). She is also a professor at the International Academy of Architecture (IAA).

She has worked for the Federation of National Colleges of Architects of the Republic of Mexico (FNCARM) since 1982 and has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA) since 1990 , where she was Vice-President from 1993 and from 1996 to 1999 as Successor of the Spaniard Jaime Duró Pifarré President of the UIA and at the same time the first female holder of the office.

In May 1998 she was awarded the title of Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture .

She was Director of Architecture and Conservation of Real Estate Art Treasures of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, Director of Urban Development of the " Miguel Hidalgo " delegation and the main coordinator of the research and documentation center in the house. On January 5, 2007, President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa elevated her to the position of Undersecretary for Urban Development and Territorial Planning in the Secretariat for Social Development, alongside the Mexican Minister for Social Development Beatriz Zavala Peniche .

She is an emeritus member of the Academia Nacional de Arquitectura (ANA) and the Academia Mexicana de Arquitectura (AMA), honorary member of the American Institute of Architects , member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), the Asociación Nicaragüense de Ingenieros y Arquitectos , des Colegio de Arquitectos de Venezuela , the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA), the Japanese Institute of Architects (JIA) and since 2002 honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and honorary member of the Consejo Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España .
