Sarah J. Maas

Sarah Janet Maas (born March 5, 1986 in New York City ) is an American writer . She is best known for her novel series Throne of Glass , whose debut novel was published in 2012 by Bloomsbury Publishing and whose German translation by Ilse Layer was published in 2013 by dtv Verlagsgesellschaft .

Life

Sarah Janet Maas was born on March 5, 1986 in New York City, New York. Maas graduated magna cum laude in 2008 from Hamilton College in Clinton , Oneida County , New York, majoring in creative writing and religious studies . Maas is married with one son and lives in Pennsylvania .

Career

Maas began writing her debut novel Throne of Glass when she was sixteen years old. After writing several chapters of the novel (then Queen of Glass ), she published it on FictionPress.com, where it became one of the most popular stories on the site. It was later removed from the site when she decided to publish the novel. The plot of the series is based on the fairy tale Cinderella , with the premise: “What if Cinderella wasn't a servant, but an assassin? And what if she wasn't at the ball to meet the prince, but to kill him? "

In 2008, Maas began sending the story to various agents before finding one in 2009. Throne of Glass was bought by Bloomsbury Publishing in March 2010 , who later bought two more books in the series. The series is available in 15 countries and 23 languages. Several prequel novels, set two years before the first novel, have also been published. In September 2015, it was announced that the Mark Gordon Company had acquired the television rights to Throne of Glass . The last book in the series, Kingdom of Ash , was published on October 23, 2018.

A Court of Thorns and Roses , Maa's second series, is a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast . The first book in the trilogy was written in 2009 but wasn't published until 2015. The series is to be filmed. The third book in the series, A Court of Wings and Ruin , was published on May 2, 2017.

On May 16, 2018, Maas announced their third adult fantasy series, Crescent City , due to be released on Bloomsbury in 2019.
