Sarah Manning

Sarah Manning (* 6 September ) is an American jazz - alto saxophonist and composer .

Life and work

Manning grew up in the New England States and played in a school band while in Hartford High School. An early mentor was Jackie McLean . With a scholarship from the Interlochen Arts Academy , she studied in the jazz program of William Paterson College, which was directed by Rufus Reid . She then graduated from Smith College, Massachusetts in Women's Studies. There she continued her saxophone studies with Yusef Lateef . In 2002 she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area .

After her debut album in 2004, on which u. a. the drummer Akira Tana participated, she recorded a live album at Yoshi’s jazz club in Oakland . In 2010 she worked with her band Shatter the Glass from Art Hirahara (piano), Linda Oh (bass) and Kyle Struve (drums). Manning now lives in Brooklyn (2011) . She has been working for the real estate company Cooper & Cooper since 2010.
