Sarah Pöppel (born March 3, 1994 in Rettenberg ) is a German winter athlete who began her career as a ski jumper and has started as a freestyle skier since 2013 .

Career

Ski jumping

Sarah Pöppel was born in the Kranzegg district of the Bavarian municipality of Rettenberg. She has been ski jumping since she was seven, starts for SC Oberstdorf and became German School Champion in 2008. On February 17, 2008, she made her debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Breitenberg . On January 21st, 2009 in Dobbiaco she achieved her only win so far with the 28th place. With the three points she won, she finished 81st in the overall Continental Cup ranking at the end of the 2008/09 season . In the summer of 2010 and in January 2011 Pöppel started again at the Continental Cup show jumping in Germany, but remained unsuccessful and without points. At the German Championships 2010 in Oberhof , she jumped to tenth place. In January 2011 she reached second and third place in the Ladies Cup in Žiri, and came fifth in the overall ranking in the juniors category.

Freestyle skiing

In January 2013, Pöppel officially switched to freestyle skiing . After she finished sixth in the qualification for the World Cup in Copper Mountain on January 10, 2013 , she started two days later for her first World Cup competition. In Slopestyle , she finished the race in 13th place, collecting her first World Cup points. In the Swiss Silvaplana , she achieved a top 10 place for the first time with eighth place. At the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2013, which took place a short time later , Pöppel landed 18th in slopestyle. At the Junior World Championships in Chiesa in Valmalenco at the end of March, she was eighth.
