Sarah Podorieszach

Sarah Podorieszach (* 5. June 1989 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a former Italian-Canadian luger .

Sarah Podorieszach was born as a Canadian of Italian descent, but does her sport for Italy. She has been tobogganing for Canada since 2000, from 2005 as part of the Italian national team. She was discovered by Italian scouts in the Junior World Cup for Italy in 2003 and changed nationality in 2004, although she had no previous connection to Italy, apart from the fact that her grandparents were from the country. The student, who lives in both Calgary and Kiens , starts for SV Gitschberg . She has been competing in the Luge World Cup since the 2005/06 season . In Nagano , Podorieszach achieved her best individual result in the World Cup in 14th place in 2006 and was able to repeat it in Lake Placid in 2007 . The same place they occupied also with the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin . At her first Luge World Championships in 2007 in Igls , the young Italian-Canadian came in 20th. In the overall ranking of the World Cup she finished 29th in her first season and improved to 21st place in the following season . The 2007/8 season started even more successfully . In the first five races Podorieszach achieved results between 14th and 17th place. In Königssee , however, she had a serious crash in the sixth race and still had to receive medical care at the track. Since then she has not contested any more World Cup races. The last major events were the 2008 Luge World Championships in Oberhof , where she was 20th, and the 2008 European Luge Championships in Cesana Torinese , where Podorieszach came 13th.
