Saris live 1983

Saris is a German band from Bochum . The group is assigned to the hard rock and progressive rock bands.

history

Saris was founded by Derk Akkermann (guitar, keyboard) and Udo Raitzig (bass) after the band "Review" broke up. Inspired by the so-called art rock and progressive rock bands of the 1970s such as Genesis , Camel , Kansas , Saga and others, they played their own compositions from the beginning, which were based on the great models, but always had a tendency towards hard- Rock showed.

Saris developed into a well-booked live band in the 1980s and found their style in melodic, symphonic hard rock. The single Out of Your Night (1983) was not accepted by the fans because it diverged stylistically from the typical Saris sound.

After a hiatus of four years and a radical reshuffle, the album Dead End Street (1993) was released. However, this work moved away from the harder elements and also only sold to insider circles.

The breakthrough came with the album Curse of Time (2009), which is more based on the original style of the band. Derk Akkermann previously reformed saris in a completely new line-up (2006) after he was able to inspire the jazz drummer and successful film composer Achim Schmidt with his compositions. Akkermann and Schmidt worked on the material for two years and were inspired by bands such as Kansas, Saga, Dream Theater , Nightwish , Magnum . Bassist Lutz Günther and singer Anja Günther joined in 2007. Thomas Hackmann is responsible for the lead and background vocals .

Singer Thomas "Hacky" Hackmann has worked as lead and background singer on many German and international rock projects. (e.g. Genius with Steve Walsh and John Wetton , Saxon , Rage , Halloween , Blind Guardian and many more)

Achim Schmidt died in March 2009 as a result of a pulmonary embolism. It was not until May 2014 that his place behind the drums was replaced by Jens Beckmann while working in the studio on a new album.

In June 2014 singer Thomas Hackmann was replaced by Henrik Wager .

Henrik Wager was born in Manchester and received his artistic training in Birmingham (School of Performing Arts and the Conservatory). He toured the world with the acapella band Flying Pickets before he came to Germany in 2000 to found a music production company and to be successful as a songwriter, producer and singer. a. performing with Stefan Raab's “TV Total” band Heavytones .
