Sarvestan , also Sarvestān, Sarvistan ( Persian سروستان), is a city in Fars Province in Iran . It is located 80 km southeast of Shiraz , the capital of the Fars province. Sarvestan has over 17,000 inhabitants.
In the area are wheat , pistachios and olives cultivated.
The palace of Sarvestan , an adobe ruin a few kilometers south of the city, plays an important role in Iranian art history and has been dated to the Sassanid period in the 5th century. According to a study by Lionel Bier (1986), however, the building that has been preserved was erected between 750 and 950 AD in Islamic times. Its core consists of a domed hall to which Iwane lead from the west and north sides. The arrangement of the domed hall with a certain resemblance to the basic shape of the Tschahar Taq led to the assumption that it could also have been a Zoroastrian fire temple .
