Sasa Uruschadze ( Georgian ზაზა ურუშაძე ; born October 30, 1965 in the Georgian SSR ; † December 7, 2019 ) was a Georgian director and screenwriter .

Life

Sasa Uruschadze grew up as the son of the well-known Soviet goalkeeper Ramas Uruschadze . From 1982 to 1988 he attended the Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film University in Tbilisi . His debut work was the film Mattvis vints mamam miatova (1989). This was followed by Ak tendeba (1998), Sami Sachli (2008) and Bolo Gaeirneba . In 2013 his film Tangerines was released , which also made him known internationally. The film was at the Oscar ceremony in 2015 as best foreign language film nominated. Tangerines is set in the Georgian-Abkhazian War (1992 to 1993) and describes how the main character takes in and takes care of two injured, actually opposing soldiers. With the film, Uruschadze won, among other things, the director's award of the Warsaw International Film Festival in 2013 .
