Sascha Nitin Sharma (born May 18,  1987  in  Bretten ) is a German - Indian mixed martial arts fighter in the lightweight. He was the first participant in a season of UFC: The Ultimate Fighter with Indian roots. He also fought at M-1 Global .

life and career

Sharma was born in Bretten , Baden . He spent his childhood and youth in Birkenfeld . In 1998 he fell ill with Guillain-Barré syndrome , a nervous disease that caused him to lose numerous motor skills and to sit in a wheelchair for some time.

Sascha Sharma started boxing in 2008, and in 2010 he started with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu . Later he also competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling . Among other things, he is a multiple German champion in his class in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

From 2012 Sharma dedicated himself to the training of mixed martial arts and denied first fights in it. A year later Sharma made his international debut at the Super Fight League in India and won against the Spaniard Marc Gomez by unanimous decision.

In 2015, Sascha Sharma prevailed as one of three Germans among several hundred applicants at the casting for the 22nd season of the reality show UFC: The Ultimate Fighter . The season's motto was Europe vs. USA . Sharma thus became part of Team Europe , which was coached by the later UFC champion Conor McGregor . He won his first fight on July 17, 2015 against the Englishman Sean Carter unanimously on points, but injured his shoulder in the first round of the duel. With this injury, he played ten days later in the round of 16 and lost against the American Chris Gruetzemacher also on points.

On April 8, 2016, he made his debut with the organization M-1 Global and fought against the eventual champion Alexander Butenko. However, he lost this fight unanimously on points. In the same year he took part in the Road to M1 Germany tournament. This tournament was about a two-year contract with M1-Global. Sharma won the tournament in the lightweight category. In February 2017, he joined the Bengaluru Tigers team in the Super Fight League at the world's first MMA team league. Sharma played two fights, both of which he won.

So far, Sharma has played a total of 20 fights in mixed martial arts (including two fights at The Ultimate Fighter and one amateur fight). He left the ring 15 times as a winner and five times as a loser.
