The Saturn L-Series is a range of passenger cars from the American manufacturer Saturn Corporation , which was manufactured from spring 1999 to mid-2004.

history

The L-series based on the Opel Vectra B . The body and the interior were adapted to the needs of American customers. The relationship between the four-door LS sedan and the five-door SW station wagon and the Vectra B can be seen primarily in the window line on the side. The rear design of the station wagon is strongly reminiscent of a mixture of the Vectra B Caravan and Astra G Caravan.

After modest sales success and name disputes over the abbreviation LS with Ford America (sells the Lincoln LS ) and Toyota (sells the Lexus LS), the model range was renamed the L-Series from model year 2001. The sedans were now offered as L100, L200 and L300, the station wagons were henceforth called LW200 and LW300.

Facelift

After a revision in autumn 2002, the model designation for the station wagon was shortened to L200 and L300 parallel to the sedan. The variant L100 was deleted without replacement. The revised L-series can be recognized by the modified front design (diagonally cut larger headlights, trapezoidal grille with integrated Saturn logo, new bumper) and rear design (single-color red tail lights, modified bumper).

In order to simplify production, all extras apart from the electric sunroof were removed from the range for the 2005 model year. The focus was on the L300 line (sedan and station wagon), the L200 were already taken out of the range with model year 2004.

After a construction period of five years and 406,300 vehicles built, the last Saturn L-Series rolled off the assembly line in June 2004. The successor is called Saturn Aura and is based on the Opel Vectra C .
