The Saubach is a brook in Darmstadt .
course
The Saubach rises from the Bessunger Troutenteich - a wetland that is fed by several sources. From the trout pond , the stream flows through the forest area at the police headquarters in South Hesse . Then he crosses under Klappacher Strasse . The Saubach flows from there in a westerly direction at the Academy of Musical Art over. To the northwest of the academy, the brook crosses Ludwigshöhstrasse . It flows west of Ludwigshöhstrasse over the school grounds of the Lichtenberg-Gymnasium ; where it feeds two wetlands. To the southwest of the Lichtenberg high school, the Saubach flows through an allotment garden area and then flows into the Bessunger gravel pit .
Etymology and history
From the Goethe pond on Mr. Gottberg flowing Jeez mountain stream today in the Bessunger trout pond , from which the Saubach flows. The Herrgottsbergbach flowed into the Darmstadt sewage system on Klappacher Strasse until 2000 .
In the area of the Klappacher Wiesen , groundwater - which is slowed down by granite rocks and an impermeable layer of clay - comes to the surface. This wetland is also called Klappacher Wasser .
In 1965 - when the Lichtenberg grammar school was being built - the natural ditch was filled in. From 1965 to 2000, the Saubach on Ludwigshöhstraße also ran into the Darmstadt sewer system.
The Saubach's earlier name was Flachsbach . The street Flachsbachweg in Darmstadt-Bessungen is reminiscent of the old name of the brook. The Bessunger used the water of the brook to extract linen from flax . The flax bundles were soaked in stream water; until the greenery rotted away. The unpleasant smell that emerged gave the stream its current name, Saubach .
