The Lichtenbergschule , also Lichtenberg-Gymnasium , LuO for short , is a high school in the city of Darmstadt with an international profile: It is the European school of the State of Hesse , MINT-EC school, school center for languages and the promotion of talented students and an international meeting school in development.
With a bilingual Abitur , the CertiLingua as a European language certificate, other language certificates and the bilingual certificate from the Hessian Ministry of Culture, the Lichtenberg School offers its students various options for international profiling and additional qualifications in connection with the state Abitur .
The Lichtenberg School is a “school center for languages and gifted students” within the “Lighthouse Schools” project of the Hessian Ministry of Culture . As part of this project, four schools in Hessen were designated as lighthouse schools with different focuses. The Lichtenberg School focuses on languages. In addition to her, the Musterschule Frankfurt am Main (focus on music), the Martin Luther School Marburg (natural sciences) and the Georg Christoph Lichtenberg School Kassel (mathematics) were awarded.
history
The history of today's Lichtenbergschule began in 1826 with the establishment of the Liebigschule - a secondary and technical school in Darmstadt. In 1873 the school was divided into two branches, the later Realgymnasium (today's Georg Büchner School ) and the Realschule. In 1911 the Realschule was split into the Justus Liebig School and today's Lichtenberg Gymnasium (under the name Ludwigs-Oberrealschule). In 1937 the name was changed to Ludwigs-Schule and in 1945 to Ludwigs-Realgymnasium. In 1956 the name was changed to Lichtenbergschule. The namesake is the physicist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, who was born in nearby Ober-Ramstadt . The school building in the Bessungen district has been in use since 1966 .
Weird Science Club
The Weird Science Club is a central part of the school's science talent development program. Here, students have the opportunity to research questions of their own choosing on scientific topics. They work independently and later represent their projects in competitions such as Jugend forscht .
English and German are colloquial languages in dialogue with scholars, some of which are foreign, which is why the club is also run as a bilingual student research center within the school and is an accredited European school project. There are currently close collaborations with the Technical University of Darmstadt , the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and the Merck company .
