The suckers ( Gastropus stylifer ) is a species from the genus Gastropus from the trunk of the rotifers (Rotatoria). G. stylifer is widespread in planktonic lakes. The animal feeds on sucking out other planktonic organisms. It is often slightly pink in color.
features
The animals are 100 to 240 μm in size and are flattened on the sides with a ringed ventral foot. The chewing apparatus has a long, stiff cuticular tube . The armor is transparent with a corrugated opening. Colorful drops of oil are visible in the stomach wall. The eggs are blue.
Ecology and way of life
The sucking wheel animal occurs mainly in lakes and ponds. It lives planktonically.
