The so-called Saukrieg (1555–1558) was a feud between Hans von Carlowitz auf Abschendorf and the Bishop of Meißen Johann IX. von Haugwitz , during which Carlowitz had many pigs of the bishop's subjects driven away in order to enforce his demands , which explains the strange name of the feud as a pig war.

In 1555 the brother of Hans von Carlowitz, Nicolaus II von Carlowitz , who was Bishop of Meissen, died. He was followed by Bishop Johann IX. from Haugwitz . Because of the legacy of the bishop, a dispute developed between the subsequent bishop and the deceased brother's sons, in particular Hans von Carlowitz zuzutendorf.

The Carlowitze feuded the new bishop and drove him out of his residence in Stolpen . In the villages around Stolpen and Wurzen , a small group of armed men penetrated without resistance and caused great damage. According to tradition, 700 grazing pigs were supposedly driven away.

Since the bishop could no longer be safe in any place of his monastery , he had to flee from his enemy to Prague in 1558 . Ultimately, Elector August mediated the disputes. After the settlement made, Carlowitz allegedly received 4,000 guilders from the bishop for expenses incurred. This ended the last feud in Saxony.

In the Marienkirche Dohna in the northeastern prayer room is the tomb with the sculpture of the main initiator of this feud, the knight Hans von Carlowitz, whose noble family were vassals of the Burgraves of Dohna until the fall of the Burgraviate of Dohna .
