The Palfauer Wasserloch is a strong karst spring near Palfau (municipality of Landl ) in the north of Styria in Austria , whose drainage then flows through the Wasserlochbach gorge into the Salza .
description
The giant spring is located northeast of the Wasserlochklamm on the southwest slope of the Hochkar . It pours out an average of 2,000 liters of water per second, making it one of the largest springs in Austria alongside the Pießling origin . It is a water cave arched over a siphon . Depending on the season and the weather, the spring can pour up to six cubic meters per second. In 1995 the cave diver Robert Seebacher reached the largest diving depth of 42 meters in the Palfau waterhole. In 2004 Robert Kriz's "Bat-Diver" team managed to descend to the probable bottom of the siphon at a depth of 71 meters.
The flowing stream flows over the Wasserlochklamm to the Salza. This is accessed by a wooden stairway, includes a height difference of 350 m (over a length of 900 m), with a total of five large waterfalls. The gorge can be reached from Hochschwab Straße B 24, where there is an inn and the cash desk (district Schönau von Landl), via a suspension bridge and a short climb down the salza.
