Savage Steel was a Canadian power , progressive, and thrash metal band from Mississauga that was formed in 1981 and split up around 1988.

history

The band was formed in 1981 and consisted of singer Paul Gleneicki, guitarist Marshall Birch, bassist Mark Talvitie and drummer Brian Vella. In addition to the first appearances, the demo Scepters of Deceit followed , which contained the three songs Streets of Indecision , Switchblade Man and Night Prowler , which should also be included on the later debut album. In the summer of 1986 she performed in the United States . There the band played concerts in Los Angeles . In addition, the local radio station KNAC played the songs from the demo. Thereupon New Renaissance Records became aware of the band and took them under contract. About this appeared in 1987 the debut album Begins with a Nightmare , which was available in Europe through US Metal Records . Stephen Turrer was the new bass player on the 1988 album Do or Die , which was produced by Steve Negus . Then the band broke up. In 1989 the guitarist Marshall Birch and the drummer Brian Vella founded the band Assailant together with other members.

style

According to Götz Kühnemund from Metal Hammer, the band play varied, medium-paced Metal on Begins with a Nightmare . Paul Gleneicki's singing is clear and melodious, in contrast to the rough guitar sound. Martin Popoff wrote in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 2: The Eighties that the band sounded complex on the album and drew comparisons to Annihilator . Popoff described the second album Do or Die as progressive speed metal , with the vocals being extremely high. He described the music as a mix of Watchtower , Atheist , Late 1980s Riot , Overkill , Death Angel , Destruction , Mekong Delta , Voivod and Mordred .
